Hello, my name is Steven Camia and I am currently a 3rd year Accountancy student with a minor in BTM. My goals, if elected, is to explore the intersection between Accountancy and technology, since advancements in tech are changing the landscape of the profession. The knowledge I have gained as VP Finance of JMAS has allowed me to better understand the internal processes and finances of the JMAS. During the 2019-2020 year I have had a say in every event we have hosted both on and off campus, and this knowledge and level of involvement has allowed me to see where there is room for improvement.
My time in the 2019-2020 team has also given me insight on potential changes within the coming year, and I intend to meet the changes head on and deal with them efficiently. This year the CPA order as well as the firms have sanctioned recruitment in the Winter semester, and we will be hosting our inaugural Spring Recruitment Cocktail to meet this demand. Moving forwards, I believe it necessary to continue maintaining our healthy external relationships with firms and the order and make sure that we adapt to the new demands of the job market. I will do my best to ensure that JMSB Accountancy students have every opportunity possible to be exposed to the job market in a positive light.
I intend to provide students with added value in the form of info session regarding other professional titles such as the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and the Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF), workshops focusing on professional development notably in the forms of excel workshops and a tax workshop, focus more on industry and grow our industry recruitment cocktail, and expanding upon existing events to ensure that the JMAS is providing the most value possible while staying within our financial means.
